What is First Protection?
We understand how difficult it can be to face a serious illness, accident, or even the death of a loved one. That is why we design a complete program thinking about you and your loved ones.
With First Protection from FirstBank, you receive financial support if you are hospitalized, diagnosed with a critical illness, or suffer a loss such as dismemberment. In addition, your beneficiaries have support in the event of your accidental death or to cover final expenses.
Caribbean American Life Assurance Company (CALAC) is the underwriters of this coverage. CALAC, their subsidiaries, and affiliates carry on business in Puerto Rico under the name of Assurant®.
How do I enroll?
Enrolling online is easy! Visit the Enrollment section of this website to review the product details. Then complete the online application.
I am enrolled in this program – is my spouse covered too?
This optional insurance coverage is limited to individual coverage.
How do I know if I am eligible for First Protection?
To enroll, you must be at least 18 years old and less than 69 years old (with automatic renewal until 75 years) and live in Puerto Rico. Also, you must have a FirstBank customer and own deposit account or credit card to make monthly payments.
Are there any health questions or a medical exam required to enroll?
There are no health questions or medical exams required to determine eligibility.
How much does this insurance cost?
We know that cost is an important factor when choosing insurance, so we want to show you our rates in the clearest and most detailed way.
For your convenience, the monthly premium will be charged automatically to the deposit account or credit card you entered at the time of enrollment. The charge will be reflected on your monthly account statement.
What if I miss a premium payment?
We know that sometimes unforeseen events may arise that prevent you from making your payment. That’s why we give you a 31-day grace period in case you are unable to make your monthly premium payment on time.
However, it is very important that, once this period has passed, your payment is up to date so that you can continue to receive the benefits without interruptions.
After the 31 days of grace, if the premium is still pending, unfortunately your policy will be canceled, and you will not be able to access the benefits.
When does coverage begin?
We want you to enjoy the peace of mind of being covered as soon as possible. If you enroll in the program from the 1st to the 10th of the month, the effective date is the 1st day of that month. If you sign up for the program from the 11th to the 30th or 31st of the month, they will be effective from the 1st day of the next month.
I enrolled in First Protection online and was approved. What happens next?
A welcome package containing your certificate of insurance and product summary page will be mailed to the address we have on file for you. This way, you will have at hand all the necessary documents with information about the characteristics and operation of your insurance..
Why was my application for First Protection denied?
